HOW TO WIPE FREE SPACE
Wipe free space on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2008, 2003, 2000, ME, 98
What is 'free space'?
'Free space' is the area on your hard drive, USB drive, flash memory cards, picture cards, removable drive, etc where all the previously deleted files are stored until they are overwritten with other information.
Why you should wipe free space
If you delete files using the 'Delete' button, it doesn't really delete files from your hard disk, removable disks, USB-flash drives, memory sticks, flash memory cards, picture cards, etc. This operation just removes the reference to the file but file still exists and can be recovered.
To protect your privacy you should wipe free space (wipe disk free space) to ensure that previously 'deleted' files cannot be recovered.
When you should wipe free space:
- wipe free space before you sell, donate, or dispose of your computer
- wipe free space to improve computer speed
Delete Files Permanently helps you to wipe free space and prevent your deleted files from being recovered. You can wipe free space using 14 built-in wiping methods as well as create your own wiping schemes.
